If you happen to cross paths with me on any given weekday, you’ll likely find me in my sartorial signature: jeans, a soft blouse or sweater, classic ballet flats or sandals, and a whisper of dainty jewelry. It’s effortless, it’s polished, and—most importantly—it frees up my brainpower for things far more pressing than outfit deliberations… like negotiating with my children over eating breakfast.
Weekends are the only time I grant myself the luxury of pondering what to wear. During the week, I know exactly what I’m investing in (comfortable denim) and when it’s worth splurging (a gala, a special date night, or any occasion that demands sparkle). My closet isn’t weighed down by neglected pieces languishing like forgotten relics; everything is worn, loved, and rotated seasonally. If it hasn’t made an appearance in a year, it’s gracefully escorted to donation, making space for new treasures I’ll actually wear—consider it wardrobe Darwinism.
Once upon a time, I flirted with the idea of a capsule wardrobe. chic in theory, suffocating in practice. I’ve since created what I affectionately call my “personal mommy uniform”—a curated rhythm of dressing that pairs beautifully with my current lifestyle, which, let’s be honest, consists largely of chauffeuring small humans around town like an unpaid Uber driver.
The truth is, I no longer need a corporate wardrobe. Even when I did, I leaned into uniforms: simple dresses as a base, topped with open sweaters or blazers, and always—always—ballet flats. It made mornings seamless, leaving me with one less decision to agonize over before coffee. (And yes, I take my coffee as seriously as my jeans.)
Speaking of jeans, let’s address the love affair: I adore them. Truly. Yes, the French may roll their eyes at our denim devotion, but on this, I respectfully disagree with Paris. Thank you, Madewell and Loft, for creating denim that flatters my petite frame, survives playground duty, and still looks chic at a dinner out. They are durable, dependable, and frankly, you’ll never convince me there’s a better foundation for modern life.
My color palette is as edited as the rest of my wardrobe: timeless bases—black, blue, white, tan, and beige—punctuated by accents of yellow, olive, and blush pink. And thanks to artificial intelligence (the chicest stylist who never rolls their eyes), I’ve recently been informed that mustard and maroon should make an appearance in my fall lineup. Consider yourself warned.
As for accessories: I’m a devoted crossbody bag enthusiast. With young children, both hands must remain available for snacks, spills, and the occasional emergency shoe retrieval. Shoulder bags? They slide off faster than my kids abandons broccoli. Small gold jewelry is my daily indulgence—my permanent bracelet makes me feel polished without even trying. Next on my list? Investing in elegant watches and belts that whisper sophistication without shouting.
In short, I dress simply, but it’s simplicity with intention—a uniform that creates ease, confidence, and just the right touch of elegance. Because life is too short to waste twenty minutes deciding between seventeen nearly identical pairs of trousers before breakfast.
Now on to my makeup routine… OH STOP IT, you know I don’t have one. Honestly, even filling in my eyebrows feels like an Olympic-level event I’m destined to fail. Help me!!!
